The Magic of the Red thread!

Have you ever been to a home that seemed to flow just right- where rooms seemed to be linked together even though they each had their own different identity and purpose. This is the magic of a design red thread! It’s that much sort after continuity and balance that lends harmony to a space. Here I’m going to give you some examples of what you could use as the red thread in your home…

Colour

This can be just one colour (your absolute favourite!) dotted throughout your home in anything from small accessories, artwork or soft furnishings through to walls, ceilings or large pieces of furniture. Another way to work it is with a colour palette that works throughout your entire home so there are a number of different colours rather than just one that are used throughout the different spaces.

A design Era

You can look to the age of the house for reference to help choose a stye or simply go with an era that you’re drawn to. I find choosing design era’s akin to picking my favourite child- I just love them all so I struggle to hone it down to just one! Instead we go for more of a mix and match approach here at Ty Cornel! Please note: You don’t need to go for all of these design threads you can choose just one!

Materials

Under this heading comes not only the fabrics for your soft furnishings such as a use of velvet throughout or perhaps ditsy florals even but it could also be a particular type of wood. Entering your home to a lovely oak floor and having that material carry through even to the carpeted lounge in the form of oak furniture in the same hue can link the two spaces and bring a feeling of consistency.

Personality

Make your favourite artist, hobby or interest be a reoccurring theme throughout your home. This is a reflection of you doted throughout your space. Do you love your garden, especially flowers… bring the outside in with the colour palette reflecting your favourite spring blooms, Posy arrangements on coffee tables, floral prints on soft furnishings and artwork depicting natures finest flowers on your walls. Perhaps for you it’s a life-long love of tennis…or theatre…or sailing?! Let your passions show throughout your home and create a thread that links it all together as a well-considered whole.
