Interior resolutions.

I don’t know about you but I love a good new year’s resolution. I usually make about 27 and keep about 3 of them past the first week of January! The ones I keep are generally the ones that make me feel good and that have a pretty quick impact! I’ve set resolutions many a time that impact on our home and the changes we make to it over the coming year and these have pretty much always been keepers! So here’s my top resolutions to go into the New Year with a fresh perspective on your home- you’ll be surprised how much even little changes to your surroundings can have a big impact on the way you live!

Buy better, Buy less.

Having a few items that you really cherish, that work well and will last for years is beyond a doubt a better way to live that to surround yourself with many cheaper items bought on a whim that serve little purpose and add to your life in no tangible way. We have previously learnt the hard way that the adage ‘buy cheap buy twice’ really is unarguably true. Now I’m not suggesting that everyone can suddenly afford to buy the very best of everything, but research is the key here. Set a budget, read reviews and consider buying second hand to enable you to get the quality you want so you have items that last longer and cause you less stress.

Add plants

I know I’ve discussed this in a previous article but the decision to add house plants to our home was a very carefully considered choice as I weighed up the possibility that I was even capable of keeping anything else under my roof alive! It is however a previous new Years resolution I am so glad I made. Not only are the house plants I’ve bought (which are now numerous and in virtually every room of our home) very aesthetically pleasing but the little care and attention they need is returned to me ten fold! The benefits of houseplants on the air quality in your home makes them in my opinion an absolute must in having a healthier space in which to live. Easy care plants are a great place to start- have a look at the blog on my website for my top 5 plants for beginners.

Make it all about you.

I really believe that every home should be an expression of the people that live there. That it should be filled with things that you love and that it should show how unique and wonderful you are. The things you surround yourself with (along with being the best quality you can afford as discussed!) should also make you smile. Paint a piece of furniture, wall or room in your favourite colour or buy a sofa in your favourite print. Don’t be afraid to go against the curve because it isn’t what your friends have in their homes. Fill your walls with art you love- regardless of what other people think of it and hang photos of places and people that you love to remind you of special memories and fun! Tell your story through your four walls and create a home that’s as delightfully unique as you are. It’ll be somewhere you feel happier than ever to come home to!

Wishing everyone a happy and healthy 2023! x
